Kalatop Khajjiar Sanctuary

Kalatop Khajjiar Sanctuary

A remarkable combination of snow-capped mountain ranges, abundant animals, lush grasslands, white water streams, dense deodar foliage, etc. can be found in the Kalatop Khajjiar Sanctuary. It is tucked away in the Chamba District and is also frequently referred to as the Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary. The name Kalatop, which translates to “black cap,” refers to the dense black forest that covers the tallest hill in the sanctuary. The Chamera Reservoir and the Chamba Dam, which can also be visited when touring the Kalatop Khajjiar Sanctuary, are only a few kilometres from the sanctuary. This wildlife sanctuary, which covers a total area of 30.62 square kilometres, is home to several species including the Himalayan black bear, mountain cats, jackals, Himalayan black martens, leopards, langurs, etc. Over 120 different bird species, including the Himalayan Monal, Asian Koala, Eurasian Jay, Khalij Pheasant, and others, are also visible. The area has a well-maintained hiking and trekking track that provides guests with an excellent experience. One can obtain a breathtaking view of the Pir Panjal Range from the Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary’s rest house. Fir, blue pine, and deodar vegetation make up the majority of the area’s vegetation.
