Hamirpur occupies the south western part of Himachal Pradesh. Hamirpur has two main Mountain hill ranges, the Jakh Dhar and Sola Singhi Dhar. The history of Hamirpur is closely associated with the Katoch dynasty that ruled in the 18th century. Hamir Chand of the Katoch dynasty built the fort at Hamirpur and the present town of Hamirpur got its name from this great ruler.
Hamirpuris situated around 32 km away from the Bhakra Dam in theHimalayan-Sutlej basin on the Mandi to Nadaun road. Hamirpur is predominantly mountainous. Gobind Sagar Lake:The beautiful and huge Govind Sagar Lake extends across several districts such as Bilaspur and Una. It is a magnificent artificial lake formed by the world famous Bhakra Dam built acrossthe equally famous River Sutlej. This lake is at a distance of 98 km from Hamirpur.
