Paonta Sahib is located on the banks of the Yamuna River in the beautiful Sirmour district of Himachal Pradesh. It is a revered religious destination for the Sikh community. Paonta Sahib is known to be the place where Guru Gobind Singh wrote parts of the sacred book, the Dassam Granth.A huge Gurudwara has been built dedicated to the memory of Guru Gobind Singh.
The Gurudwara of Paonta Sahib occupies a significant position and is of grave historical importance to Sikhs. The Palki in which the Guru travels from one place to another is made of pure gold. It was donated by one of the devotees. The place called Shri Talab Asthan from where salaries are distributed and also the place named the Shri Dastar Asthan where the turban tying competitions are held are the most ornamental and beautiful places ofthe Gurudwara. The Gurudwara sports a museum where one can view the intriguing antiques and weapons on display. These were used by Guru Gobind Singh. An elaborate Langar is served to all devotees.
There are multiple stories on how Paonta Sahib came to bear this name. The most commonly believed story goes that the word Paonta is derived from paon of Hindi origin that means foot and it is named so in respected remembrance to the piece of ornament that Guru Gobind Singh wore on his foot when he went to bathe in the waters of the Yamuna River.
Apart from the attraction of this special Gurudwara, there is the beautiful Assan Lake offering a range of recreational activities for all ages.Sahstradhara is another major tourist attraction of Paonta Sahib. The sulphur content in the waters of this natural spring is believed to have healing remedies for all types skin diseases. Paonta Sahib is located at a distance of about 45 km from Dehradun which is a major hill station. It is connected well with the rest of the country.
By Road: From Dehradun, Paonta Sahib is connected by regular buses and taxi service. Paonta Sahib being located on NH-72 is well networked by private as well as state run buses. Inter-state as well as intra-state buses ply at regular intervals.
By Train: Nearest rail head to Paonta Sahib is Dehradun Railway Station, which is about 45 km and trains from all major Indian cities have stops at this rail head. Station is well connected to Paonta Sahib via buses and taxis.

Gurudwara Paonta Sahib: Paonta Sahib Gurudwara was the home of Guru Gobind Singh for four long years when the reverent Guru wrote a considerable section of the holy book Dassam Granth. Sri Talab Asthan is the place from where the guru used to distribute alms. The area known as Sri Dastar Asthan from where the Guru served his dictum in the turban tying competitions is also a place worth visiting. The museum displaying the pens and weapons used by the guru is also interesting.
Katasan Devi Temple Paonta Sahib: Katasan Devi Temple has a deep religious association and offers an amazing experience for the visitors. Situated on the Paonta Sahib-Nahan Road in the beautiful Sirmour district of the popular state of Himachal Pradesh, this templeattracts significant number of devotees all through the year. This shrine, popularly named Uttam Wala Bara Ban is revered and loved by devotees.
