How to reach Bilaspur

By Air: The nearest International Airport to Una is Sri Guru Ram Das Jee International Airport, which is located in Amritsar. The airport is approximately two hours of drive from Una. Una is connected to the major cities like Delhi, Chandigarh, Srinagar, Surat and Mumbai via all major air links such as Indigo, Go Air, Air India and Spice Jet flights.

By Rail: There is a small and quaint railway station in Una that is connected to all major cities of Himachal Pradesh. It is also connected to other cities such as Rupnagar, Chandigarh, Ambala, Haridwar and Delhi.

By Road: Una is connected well by road with all other major cities of Himachal Pradesh and the rest of India. Buses ply at regular intervals and private cars can be hired to go around.

Places to visit

Pong Dam: This dam has been constructed across the river Beas and is one of the chief attractions in Una. The Pong Dam is located 450 meters above sea level andhosts a variety of flora and fauna. Thewildlife sanctuary contains some beautiful bird species and other wild animals such as leopard, deer, sambar and wild boar. The place is ideal for family picnics and is also an excellent destination for photo shoot. Bird photography can be a joyful experience here.

Gobind Sagar: Visit the enchanting Gobind Sagar Lake, which is a manmade reservoir formedby the Bhakra Dam. The reservoir is built across the River Sutlej and was completed in 1976. Enjoy the thrills of enchanting water sports when the reservoir has ample water in the months of October and November. The common games of thrill are water-skiing, sailing, kayaking and water scooter racing, boat rides, ferry rides and speedboat rides.

Chintpurni Temple is a very important pilgrim destination because it is one of the word renowned 51 Shakti Peetha in India. Shakti Peethas have developed as primary religious destinations for Hindus wherever a part of Goddess Sati had fallen on Earth. It is said that the site of Chintpurni Temple is the site where Sati’s forehead had fallen. The temple is located at least 950 meters above sea level and contains the idol of the Hindu deity Maa Chandi also called Chinnamastika.

Thaneek Pura: The Hill station of Thaneek Pura is located close to the famous Chintpurni Temple. It has an elevation of 950 meters and is famous for the number of temples and fairs or fests in which a huge number of pilgrims participate. This site is famous for both the Hindus and Sikhs. Thaneek Pura offers adventurous trekking trails that wind through the dense deep woods and rough Himalayan terrain and set every heart at fire with the prospect of thrill and excitement.

Kaleshwar Temple: This is an ancient temple dating back at least 400 years. This temple is believed to be built by the Mahabharata famous Panha Pandavas during the years of their exile. Later on the Katoch Dynasty completed its construction. The temple houses the deity of Lord Shiva and is as revered as the primary pilgrim spots of Haridwar and Benaras. It also holds a famous annual fair held during the summer months of May and June. During this fair, thousands of pilgrims reach this spot to offer their payers and seek blessings.

Gagret: Visit this small sleepy hamlet located near Swan or Sombhadra River. The river is seasonal however. Gagret lies in the border of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.

Bangana: It is a quaint and picturesque village of Himachal Pradesh.

Bharwain: It is another quaint hamlet in Una District and is the entry point for the Chintpurni Temple. This village is located between western Himalayas and Shiwalik ranges.

Raipur Maidan: It is located 11 km from Una Town, and is replete with the beauty of Gobind Sagar and the scenic Shiwalik Ranges at the backdrop. Enjoy the beauty and the serenity of the location.

Kila Baba Bedi: A historic mausoleum situated atop a mountain which offers some great views of the surroundings, Kila Baba Bedi ji is a famous tourist spot. Fests & Fairs

Una is a potpourri of India’s rich cultural heritage and most of the festivals celebrated here with pomp and glory.

Diwali: Diwali can be considered as the most important festival in these parts. This festival is participated by mostly by Hindus. It is known as the “Festival of Lights” or Deepavali and usually falls in the month of October or November. Diwali is a major joyous celebration in Una and the people reverently offer prayers to Goddess Lakshmi.

Dussehrra:Dusshera is celebrated very fervently in Una by the local people. Dusshera falls in the month of September or October. This festival celebrates the victory of good over evil Lord Rama over the demon Ravana. It is marked as the victory of good over evil.

Holi:The “festival of colours” as it is known as in all over India is celebrated joyously in a grand manner in all over Una. It is a primary festival for the locals of Una. Lots of preparations happen during and before the actual festivities.

Baba Bhar Bhag Singh Mela or Fair – Dera Baba Bharbhag Singh Gurudwara was built in the name of saint Baba Bharbhag Singh. It is situated approximately 40 km from Una Town and accessible by direct buses or trains till Una or by air till Chandigarh or Shimla. The Gurudwara is very famous and is visited by thousands of Sikhs every year to receive the blessing of Baba Bharbhag Singh. The saint had established this Gurudwara approximately 40 km away from Una Town. The Gurudwara is perched at the hill top and looks enchanting being surrounded by Eucalyptus trees. It is at this Gurudwara premises that a famous fair known as Baba Bhar Bhag Singh Mela is held. The fair happens in the month of February every year to pay respect to saint Barbhag Singh ji who was known widely for his supernatural or magical powers. This fair is held around the period of Holi festival. This fair is very unique because it is famous for treating mental ailments. A large number of people suffering from mental diseases visit this fair and are all treated by special priests called Masands of the Gurudwaras.

Climate

Una enjoys a pleasant summer climate and the temperature in summer ranges a comfortable 15°C to 30°C. The summer months are earmarked stretching from March and continuing till May. The rainy months range from June to September and during these 4 months Una receives heavy rains. The whole of place remains rain washed and wet throughout the monsoons.The month of October sets the beginning of the mountain winters. The temperatures dip and it get cooler. Winter temperatures ranges from 0°C to 20°C. The effects of winter are felt till the month of February. Heavy woollens are recommended if visiting Una during the winter season.
